This exciting project will help us raise funds by collecting and recycling the pull tabs from aluminum cans. Last year, over 36,000 students from 77 schools/organizations from across middle Tennessee, southern Kentucky and northern Alabama took on the challenge of collecting the most aluminum tabs from cans that can be recycled with all proceeds benefiting RMHC of Nashville.
Highlights from last year • 137,561 ounces or 8,597.62 lbs. of pull tabs were collected • 10,317,141 can tabs were recycled @ $ .40 lb. equaled $ 4,126.86
We need your help to make the challenge even bigger this year! Here’s how you can participate:
• From Friday, August 14 through Friday, November 13, participating schools/organizations will coordinate their students/members in the collection of pull tabs.
• Collect the pull tabs in containers (gallon size plastic bags work the best).
• On November 13, you will need to weigh the pull tabs you have collected.
• Please divide the total weight (Use ounces as the measure) of pull tabs collected by the number of students/members in your school/organization.
• A second mailing will arrive in late October that explains how to report the amount of tabs your group has collected.
• The winning school/organization will be determined by the highest weight of tabs per student/member.
• The winning school/organization will receive a lunch for every student/member served by your local McDonald’s restaurant.
• All participating students/members in every school/organization will receive a coupon good for a free McDonald’s ice cream cone!!
On Friday, November 20, we will have a “Pull Tab Drop” where schools/organizations are invited to the Nashville Ronald McDonald House to bring their aluminum can tabs to the House and help us fill our giant dumpster to be taken to the recycler. We encourage everyone who participates in the Pull Tab Challenge to come to the House to be a part of our festivities. The winning school/organization will be announced at this fun celebration.
